cloaking the landscape in a cold desolation that wouldn't
be felt again until a time when humans no longer walked the earth

If one were to set foot here, they would emerge with their eyes fixed permanently on some point along the horizon, eternally bound to the stillness and sorrow of the hills. All matter, trivial or possessing depth, would stretch within their mind like a fever, infinitely ancient and impossible to comprehend. The mist would have served its purpose.

If a traveler, of mind and body vastly more willful than our own, were to withstand the spell of the mist, they would find the hills a much more sinister place. Stumbling dazed over stones too angular to be nature's creation, feeling the gaze of the ancient towers surrounding them, they would know that this place did not belong to them.

For amidst the rusted armor strewn in the dirt, the ditches overflowing with bones that do not even deserve the titles of "graves," the crumbling masonry of architecture hailing from a time beyond our own, something ancient, something hateful sleeps. Its sleep is restless, and one day it shall awake.
